Summer Social Media Posting Ideas

May 06, 2023

A hot topic at our Small School Leaders meetup - what to post on social media over the summer??

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Repurpose school year posts or by featuring Throwback Thursdays or Flashback Fridays every week.
  • Highlight new and returning faculty members using photos and, if you’ve planned ahead, testimonials or bios you’ve collected from them via a Google Form before summer break
  • Encourage parents and faculty to submit vacation photos. This is always a fun way to build community and get engagement.
  • Showcase upgrades or changes happening to the campus. It could be that you’re repainting a room, installing new technology, planting trees, etc. It’s even better if you can get a staff member in the picture (or your mascot)!
  • Shoot “what I’m excited about this fall” videos for summer staff or better yet batch these before faculty leave for the summer.
  • Countdown to the start of school using different staff members (or your mascot) holding numbers (10, 9, 8, 7…) around the campus.

Summer Posting Tips

  • Consider reducing the number of times you post each week, especially if you’re trying to take time off or have limited staffing.
  • Batch your content before summer even begins! Capture faculty and families before they leave so that you’re not chasing down content all summer.
  • Schedule in advance! Most of your summer content can be batched before summer starts.
