At our Small School Leaders meet-up, two important topics came...we chatted about why families enroll (see below!) and print vs. digital.
I'm going to ask you a question, and I want you to be honest. Do you know why families enroll at your school? 🤔
🤨 No, I'm not talking about a conversation you had with families during the admissions process (they aren't going to be 100% honest because they don't know you and they want to get into your school).
🤨 Or the little multiple choice survey you give them during the admissions process (it doesn't provide depth or account for emotions or desires).
🤔 I'm talking about REALLY knowing and understanding why parents and students choose your school.
The truth is most schools do not know why parents enroll, they don't understand the many emotional and logical decisions families go through in making a decision. 🙄 Schools are also unaware of why parents chose their community over competing public and independent schools.
Yet, this information is vital to your school attracting and retaining families. Why?
Once you understand why families enroll, you can market better to prospective families. In addition, you can ensure you're delivering the things that families enrolled for...which helps with retention! 👏
This year, I encourage you to make an effort to understand why families enroll in your school. Third-party interviews are one of the best ways to ensure you get honest, authentic answers and sound data (the team at ESM is here to help if you need us!). 😎
However, if you can't go that route at least try to capture that data with a well put together anonymous survey. ✅ This effort pays off in the long run by increasing retention and enrollment.
