WordPress Pros & Cons for Your School's Site [w/ Tara Claeys]

Mar 23, 2021

Hey there!

I'm so excited to be joined today by Tara Claeys of Design TLC to talk about WordPress for building your school's website.

Tara specializes in building WordPress sites for small and medium-sized schools, and she's also my co-host of the Mindful School Marketing Podcast 🌱 coming April 2021!

So, what is WordPress, and why should you use it for your school's website?

WordPress is one of the most popular free and open-source content management systems.

It gives you endless control over your website by allowing you to build it yourself through themes, templates, and plugins, as well as hiring a developer to add code.

If you do hire a designer or developer to build your initial site, you can maintain it yourself for a relatively low cost per year. Or, you can hire someone to maintain it, for under a total of $1000 per year, including hosting fees and software that can enable you to easily update your website info yourself.

Although WordPress is not as easy to build yourself as sites like Squarespace or Wix, you have more control over your site and do not have to stick to one template. It gives you that freedom while not being nearly as expensive as a school website service like Finalsite.

Another benefit of WordPress is that it's great for SEO, which is extremely important for a school's online presence!
