5 Simple Yet High-Impact Soft Touch Tips

Aug 19, 2021

Hey there,

As a part of our back-to-school series, today I'm addressing the importance of soft touches. What is a soft touch? I define it as anything that doesn't have a hidden agenda. It's the pieces that connect your families with your mission.

They're important because when a family feels more connected to the school, when they feel they are seen and heard, they are more likely to be engaged, and to stay at your school!

This is even more crucial now at the beginning of the school year when new parents are getting to know your school. So here are 5 key soft touches, because it takes 5 positive interactions to outweigh a negative one!

1. Photocards! 📸  I recommend Touch Note. It's simple, and yet means a lot to parents to receive a personalized photo of their child!

2. Voice memos. Maybe you don't give your cell phone to parents, but just a quick update on how their child's day went can keep parents happy.

3. Welcome videos. These can be so easy to do for all of the new families, a short video from a school admin welcoming each family with a personalized message like "we're so happy you're a part of the community!"

4. Printed copies of student artwork for cards or notes. This an oldie but goodie! I've seen schools use artwork for thank you notes and annual fund campaigns.

5. Loom or Vidyard videos embedded in emails. Similar to number 3, these short and sweet videos will make a parent's day seeing it pop up in their inbox.

What are you doing to engage families at the start of the school year? I'd love to hear your ideas! If you're looking for more marketing tips, unlock our free, Small School Marketing Resources Vault😉
